Google Maps – the future has arrived

Google Maps are amazing. They provide incredible detail and ease of use. I will probably never use any other mapping service again.

There is a single search field in which you enter an address or whatever directions you care to give it.  It seems to take freeform input.

I entered this: La Cienega and Sunset Blvd Los Angeles CA

I got an instant map at the exact scale I wanted. This is an example of what happens when you get your product features right, rather than reasonably good.

It’s back to the drawing board for Yahoo and MapQuest. Google owns the map business now.
