Our trees are cursed

Haunted-ForestI was greeted by this scene after this morning’s storm. The broken tree with it’s birdhouse head reminded me of a creature from a haunted forest.

What concerns me is that this is the third tree to break this year and they were the only trees on which I had mounted birdhouses… (Cue the Mystery Theater soundtrack…)

We love our forested lot with its tall hardwoods and the little stream at the bottom of the hill behind the house. It is filled with birds of all kinds and the deer graze placidly all through the day.

It is an idyllic scene, and the daily din from my saws and woodworking equipment doesn’t disturb it at all.

It would be a pity if we lose more of our trees. Most are 60 years old and they create a canopy that brings welcome shade in this endless summer heat.

We are bringing in an arborist tomorrow morning. Perhaps he can raise the curse, or perhaps he will only tell me to use lighter birdhouses.
