Signs of Spring on Highway 221

This flowering tree was a burst of Spring energy on an otherwise dark grade on Highway 221 north of Willis, VA. It was almost 5 o’clock and the light was going fast, so I grabbed a few shots while I could.

Fortunately, there was a nearby pullout so I didn’t have to risk life and limb dodging late afternoon traffic.

It seemed to be some sort of weeping cherry, but I leave the identification to my usual panel of local experts.

Gretchen has informed me that we need one of these in our back yard, so I do need to identify this beautiful tree.

Any ideas?
