He is a powerful writer and his work creates an emotional impact. <\/p>\n<p>He is currently the Parris Distinguished Professor of Appalachian Studies at Western Carolina University and his contract provides him the time to write and do book tours as well as teach.<\/p>\n<p>His poetry and fiction have been published in more than 80 journals and magazines, and he is author of two collections of short stories and three collections of poetry. His first novel was \u201cOne Foot in Eden\u201d and his second novel was \u201cSaints at the River.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a onclick=\"window.open(this.href, '_blank', 'width=470,height=660,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false\" href=\"http:\/\/ripples.typepad.com\/photos\/uncategorized\/rrbook498.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"150\" height=\"210\" border=\"1\" src=\"http:\/\/ripples.typepad.com\/ripples\/images\/rrbook498.jpg\" title=\"Rrbook498\" alt=\"Rrbook498\" style=\"margin: 0px 0px 5px 10px; float: right;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>His appearance in Floyd was arranged by Floyd&#8217;s friends of the Library. Once again, they have done this community a great favor. <\/p>\n<p>Watching a celebrated writer give a book reading gives you an inside view of how the story was developed and what the author was trying to accomplish.
