Celebrating life…

celebrateLike many others, I have been too busy to blog on this Memorial Day Weekend. The weather has been sunny and cool for a change and I have spent every waking moment catching up on household projects and what is happening in our back yard.

The view from our deck these days reminds me of a hotel verandah in an African game preserve. We see finches, cardinals, crows, woodpeckers, squirrels and deer, all eating at the same time, while our two cats sit quietly and observe from nearby.

McWane, nation’s most dangerous employer, faces new charges

I discussed the finer points of the McWane productivity system in an earlier post. It’s what McWane calls disciplined management, a term reminiscent of slave labor practices during the Second World War.

McWane is a stark example of what can happen when there is an extreme concentration on financial results with no thought for the cost in human lives or environmental damage.

The Bush speech I would love to hear

I found this tonight and it gave me a great lift. In a better world, we would have already heard this and it would be part of our national heritage. Perhaps if enough people read it, we might see some changes occur. At any rate, you owe it to yourself to read this and imagine what it could mean.

It has been circulating for a few months and there are at least 15,400 references on Google for it. I could not identify the original author, but it sounds like something almost every American has wished that George Bush would consider doing.
