On choosing a presidential candidate…
I am not as well-informed about issues as I should be and I have heard only a fraction of the available campaign rhetoric. That puts me in the non-aligned voter segment that has to choose candidates by other means.
I choose a candidate as I would choose a friend, by his behavior and not by his party label. I watch what he says and how he says it.
I watch how he conducts himself when frustrated and angry. Watching Teddy Kennedy and Hilary during the State of the Union message was an education in nonverbal communication. Update: Watching Dean almost any time was an eye opener.

Sunday morning, the ceiling of our kitchen looked like this. Notice that the top of the roof is open.

Roof repair adventure – Friday
This was the most productive day yet, even though the weather has remained cold (20-32 degrees) and windy.
Before the contractor arrived, Gretchen and I surveyed the work area and discussed how we might best accomplish what was needed, so there would be no omissions on the contractor’s part.

Repairing our roof – Thursday
I have fallen behind on my writing, so this is actually Thursday’s episode of do-it-yourself contracting.
It was the coldest weather I can remember and the wind was blowing hard.
I felt great empathy for the man standing on the roof ridge of my house in the gathering darkness. He was struggling to fasten a tarp over the exposed sheathing and the wind was lifting the heavy plastic like a sail.
