A new feature: What kind of blog is this?

I visited a weblog the other day which suggested that blogs should have an easily located explanation of what kind of blog they were. The idea was that this would let first-time visitors see if the blog was the kind of site they would feel comfortable bookmarking. I thought it made a lot of sense.

We have all visited sites because of a particularly interesting article and found to our dismay that some parts of the site were peppered with pictures of bunnies or political rants we didn’t agree with.

So, I created an overview of this site where you can see what to expect. If you look at the top of the left sidebar, you will see the legend: What Kind of Blog is This?

If you click on it, you will open a page that describes the blog in enough detail so you will have no doubts about what you are visiting. Let me know if this new section describes this blog as you know it.  I think this feature helps position this blog because there really is a core purpose under all of the wide-ranging discussions.

If you would like to advise me on branding and positioning for better effect, please have at it. I want to make visiting this site as easy and entertaining as possible.
