August in Palmyra – scenes from our deck

My wife Gretchen is becoming an avid photographer with an eye for beauty in the small details of life.

This week she managed to break free for a few moments and get outside with her camera. All of these shots were taken in the space of a few minutes from the vantage point of our back deck.

ButterflyA butterfly sampling the contents of Gretchen’s flowerbox.
TomatoesMy container garden tomatoes.
LunchA typical lunch bunch at our backyard deer feeder.

She has managed to capture the lush texture of August in these few pictures.

    Beautiful! Thanks for sharing. 🙂

You’re right — Gretchen captured August. The butterfly on the flowers has fantastic clarity.

Lovely pictures… You (and your wife) are lucky not only to live among such beautiful surroundings (I live on the seventh floor of an apartment complex in Bombay and consider myself lucky not to be peeping into the neighbour’s apartment every time I look out of the window!), but also to have been blessed with an eye for beauty…

for so often, we become so immersed in our lives and daily ordinary struggles that we fail to see the beauty of small things around us, like the sunset and the flowers… we just don’t notice.

Keep of the great work Gretchen!

  5. Rae says:

Oooooh, those lovely deer make me miss the midwest. Their tails look long enough and their eyes and ears look like white tail?

  6. They are white tailed deer. I understand that they are found over much of the US.
